How CT Scanners are Transforming Veterinary Care

In addition, several of our highly skilled veterinary team members have completed advanced training, enabling us to interpret images swiftly and more precisely. This allows us to diagnose your pet as swiftly as possible.
What is a Computed Tomography (CT) scan?
A CT scan is a type of X-ray that provides detailed slices of the specific body part being examined. The remarkable feature of this technology is that a computer can stitch together all the individual images to generate a 3D image, providing a veterinary surgeon with more information about a bone, organ, or blood vessels than any other diagnostic tool previously available at a veterinary hospital.
What pets can undergo this procedure? Is it dangerous?
We can conduct CT scans of any household pets, from your tinniest furry friends to large dogs.
CT Scanners are non-invasive and do not cause any harm. We understand that your pet is an integral part of your family, and we are committed to creating a safe environment for them during their CT scan.
Throughout the entire process, from preparation to post-scan care, our anaesthetist and registered veterinary nurses will closely monitor your pet’s breathing, heart rate and blood pressure. They are specially trained to handle patients undergoing CT scans and will ensure your pet is well cared for.
The CT scan process only takes a few minutes, and the images and data will promptly appear on a screen for a trained CT technician to evaluate. However, preparing a comprehensive report may require a few days.
Why would your pet need a CT scan?
CT scans detect soft tissue damage, cancer, orthopaedic injuries, bone abnormalities and evaluate internal organs and blood vessels. This enabling veterinarians to diagnose conditions that would have previously required surgery.

How can your pet receive a CT scan?
If your veterinarian believes a CT scan would be helpful, they can schedule an appointment for your pet as soon as possible. They will discuss the CT scan process with you in detail, so you are comfortable with the procedure.
Do you accept referral cases?
Streatham Hill Vets welcomes referral cases for CT scans. Our site features the latest software and highly experienced staff. In addition, our team works closely with referring veterinarians to provide additional diagnostic insights and manage the progression of diseases throughout treatment.
