Alabama Rot Reported Locally

Date: 11 Feb 2021

Tags: Alabama Rot, dogs, health

Recently, there have been several suspected cases of Alabama Rot reported locally. This dangerous disease can be life-threatening for dogs. While we don’t want you to worry, we thought it was important to share this news with you and provide information and advice on how to notice Alabama Rot symptoms.

Alabama Rot is a disease that affects dogs and can be fatal. Sadly, there have been several deaths in the last few weeks in the South West London area and suspected cases in and around Wimbledon.

Due to cases of the disease being reported locally, it’s really important to not only be aware of Alabama Rot but to know how to look out for symptoms and how to protect your cherished pets.

If you usually take your dog to local parks like Streatham or Tooting Common, we’d suggest being particularly cautious. If you do take your dog to these local parks, we would strongly recommend the following:

🐾  Make sure you thoroughly wash your dog’s feet when returning from walks
🐾  Washing your dog’s feet when they’ve been in muddy areas is especially important
🐾  Avoid taking your dog to the park if they have any skin lesions on their feet

If you notice that your pet has any foot or leg sores, please contact your vet immediately for advice.

We’ve created a blog filled with information on Alabama Rot, including information on what Alabama Rot is and how to recognise symptoms of Alabama Rot.

If you are worried about your pet or have any questions, please contact our surgery, where a member of our experienced team will be happy to help- 0208 674 3525.
