Danny - Kitten with no Eyelids

Danny is a sweet 4 month old kitten that unfortunately was born with a condition called 'eyelid agenesis'. He has no upper eyelids on both eyes so not only can he not blink but also he has hair growing and rubbing straight onto his eyeballs. He was rescued by some very caring and dedicated owners who regularly travel to Ireland and rescue numerous neglected kittens.

The treatment for his painful condition involves an operation which will be conducted at North Downs Specialist referrals by an eye specialist called Elaine Holt. The operation is very complicated and involves the transplantation of some of the lower lid to create a new upper lid.

He can only have this operation when he is 6 months of age so we are having him in regularly at the surgery to pluck the hair from around his eyes weekly under local anaesthetic - he is so brave and makes very little fuss.

The costs for the operation and care before and after the procedure are considerable. Here at Streatham Hill Vets we are trying to keep costs to a minimum and the referral centre said that they may also give him a discount. There has been fabulous media coverage and there has been lots of donations so far from caring animal lovers- this will go a long way to securing the future health and happiness of brave little Danny. The prognosis for his vision and comfort are good if the operation is successful.
