Why is Puppy Pre-School so important? During 8-16 weeks puppies are at their most influential age. They can learn very quickly during this time good things along with bad. Unfortunately thousands of dogs every year around the UK weren’t given the opportunity to learn correctly. They end up developing major behavioural problems and are either destroyed or handed over to a pound and generally later euthanised. It is much easier to teach your puppy correctly from the start rather than trying to correct an undesired behaviour. It is difficult to socialise a puppy at this important age because they are too young to go into public areas such as dog park’s. Puppy Pre-School is a safe environment and because the other puppies are the same size and age it is less intimidating than meeting with a 40kg adult dog. Where and When are classes held? Classes are run at Sandra Strong's Training Centre - please call the surgery for more details. Who runs the classes? Sandra Strong: A qualified veterinary nurse and behavioural trainer. Co owner of Dogs on Camera, Sandra provides dogs for film, stage and stills industry. Diane Bruce: Experienced breeder and trainer of small dogs for over 20 years. Diane actively competes in show, obedience, agility and flyball with her Papillions and Affenpinschers. What the classes cover? As well as providing your pet with the chance to learn how to play nicely, they will also become more confident in their surroundings and with other people. The classes teach some basic obedience and help you to successfully house train your pup as well as stop their chewing and biting. The classes teach you how to groom, clip nails and clean teeth etc. They cover benefits of using crates for training and ideas on how to use interacticve toys and treats. Classes also give you the opportunity to discuss any issues you may be having at home with training etc. Puppy Pre-School is a lot of fun for you and your puppy. Puppies that are pre-school trained in the clinic love to come back. It gives them wonderful memories of the clinic and they are always the dogs that end up dragging their owners in the door rather than putting their brakes on. What do I bring with me? Your puppy will need a well fitted collar and lead for the class it will also need to have had it’s first puppy vaccination. How do I book in? Phone our surgery during open hours on 0208 674 3525.
